ARCADE: Weaving a New Kind of Seattle Art Fair

Hello friends!

I am glad to share ARCADE has written a feature article about my Jean Body Engagement with Method Gallery during the Seattle Art Fair this summer 2024. The article is included in the fall issue of the quarterly digital design magazine. Read the article here and check out the other amazing articles on the local art scene.

Breaking News! I'm to be the first pilot artist for the new AIR program at MMCP!

I'm ecstatic to announce I'll be returning to Mini Mart City Park as one of the first artists in residence! Stay tuned for all the fun, and plenty of sneak peaks, on Instagram as I pilot this new program at MMCP this fall and explore all it offers. I'll be there throughout October and November.

Two things you can start looking forward to while I'm there: I'll be holding my next "Jean Bodies Engagement" and have an on-site dropbox for used jean donations as part of my time there. More to come!

Seattle Art Fair with Method 7/25-28

I am pleased to share Method Gallery will feature the continuation of my Jean Bodies Project at Seattle Art Fair THIS WEEK. Visit us in booth D13!

Kicking off a new iteration, my Jean Bodies will be on view and I will be on-site further developing works in progress in a public engagement component in the booth. Seattle Art Fair attendees are invited to participate; bring your jean donations to booth D13 and join the process of tying them together with me at various points throughout the fair. Together we will create sculptures as relics of real communities and hold space for conversation around what reuse can look like in daily life.

AMcE Creative Arts is pleased to present Embodiment – a group show of works that touch on memory and history

May 18 – June 30, 2024

The works in Embodiment contend with personal and collective histories, relationships, and memory. Through varying media, the six featured artists reflect on the past’s influence on our present modalities and whether it offers confluence or opposition. Our human connection to the intricacies of external and internal systems and environments are also considered. The work’s elements and imagery serve as puzzle pieces of a bigger picture perspective.

Opening Reception: Saturday, May 18, 5p – 7p

Saturday, June 8, 3p: Curatorial walk through and an afternoon of artist talks with Alfred Harris, Rachel Maxi, Megan Prince, and Cara Tomlinson.

Sunday, June 30, 3p – 5p: AMcE’s third anniversary celebration and closing reception for Embodiment

Out of the Box: METHOD Silent Auction & Gala

My contribution for Method Gallery “Out of the Box” is made out of the box.

What happens when you give an artist that likes to use reclaimed materials a specific material? They use it. I applied time and fire with woodworking tools and finished with tung oil. My piece “Time Burns Away” is part of my current series “1,000 Paintings of Love” and available for bidding online 12/2 and viewing at Method during First Thursday and at the Gala.

BELIEVE WOMEN

It is with a heavy heart that I share my final performance hours for phase two of “Tying/Untying” happened Thursday, July 27, from 4-7pm. This final performance was done in solidarity with women.

Believe Women; Women: if you think or feel strange about something, TRUST YOURSELF.

“Tying/Untying” echos the frustration and reward of working together. Performance materials and costume generously donated by @prairieunderground

There something about being with something physically, holding it in your hands, that makes it feel real.

Virtual Book Club this Wednesday, March 1 from 6-7pm; join us on Instagram LIVE. Ellen McGivern and I will be discussing Circe by Madeline Miller. Check my companion book list for an insight into what inspires me! If you haven’t been to the Kirkland Library yet to see my installation, Seeing Remnants in Life, make sure you head over this month! It’s open through March 30.

Remnants are the leftovers in life. Frequently seen as invaluable and discarded. Remnants can be powerful when given a voice or even our attention. Choosing to notice and acknowledge what we throw away can inform what we take in. I ask myself what have I discarded recently and wasted without need? What do I take for granted, as a given? If I put in a little effort can I make that remnant a desired whole again? Reestablishing its value? Or give new life?

Megan Prince: Seeing Remnants in Life, featuring two large-scale works, is up now through March 30, 2023 the Kirkland Library, KCLS in partnership with The Kirkland Arts Center. This project is also supported, in part, by a grant from 4Culture.

Impermanent, 2022, red Sharpie on photography seamless, 80x105 inches. Impermanent is the largest from Prince’s 1,000 Paintings of Love series, each unique piece points to the individuality and importance of each of us in this life. This large-work on paper was made with non-archival materials and will degrade with time from the acids in both the Sharpie marker and photography seamless paper. The photography seamless used to make this work was donated by John and Nichelle Keatley.

Red Ratchet Strap Remnant Relationship (RRSRR), 2023, reclaimed red ratchet straps, 92 x 339 inches. RRSRR is the largest from Prince’s Remnant Relationships series, hand-constructed wall sculptures. Her material choice speaks to accessibility and inclusion of all people and being a steward of our world. Frequently made from leftover pieces of cast-off or remnant fiber materials which the artist gathers from her community at large. The 12,000 feet of reclaimed red ratchet straps used to make this work were donated by SuttonBeresCuller.

Tying/Untying Video is live!

Tying/Untying, my month-long performance during Reworked at The Vestibule gallery, is finished. It was such a joy to make this participatory durational performance piece with you and for you. Thank you to everyone that came out and participated! Those of you that happened to come during my weekly performance sessions will be able to catch glimpses of yourselves in my Time-lapse videos on my IG @meganprinceart. You will be able to find it all together under the Videos and Performance tab in the WORK section of my website soon. In the meantime here is a video that was made about this performance. Enjoy!
