Life and Story of a Painting Commission : The McCullough Painting

This weekend I had the opportunity for a socially distanced visit to the home of friends where this painting lives. The couple commissioned this large oil painting from me a few years ago and have displayed in prominently in their main living space ever since. During our time together they shared that another friend had recently spent some time in front of the painting and let them know how deeply it affected her and how much she loved it. This is such a lovely statement of how meaningful it is for us to have real art on our walls that we live with on a daily basis. Having art living with us in our daily lives elevates our time and adds so much to our days.

This wonderful experience of hearing about the life of my painting was only made sweeter by the wonderful news last week that a large portion of a the Lang Collection will be joining the permanent collection at the SAM this year. The Lang Collection is a preeminent abstract expressionist art collection that the couple collected in throughout their life time. Read about it here. I am beyond excited about this. Since having lived in Brooklyn for almost 8 years (during and after receiving my MFA) I loved seeing all the Abstract Expressionist art in person pretty much whenever I had the time. I would say this time in art history has the largest single impact on my work and my development as an artist. I return to this movement over and over again for steadiness of mind and heart. I am looking forward to having a selection of these works again near by as early as this fall.

All of this considered, if you have a bare spot on your wall consider filling it with an original work of art. Not only will you be supporting the arts (and specifically me if you choose my work) but you will be elevating your daily life and adding a piece of art that you can enjoy and cherish for years to come. I love working with people to develop the right pieces for each of them. Send me a quick email to start the commission process for you. I look forward to hearing from you!
